Don't be fooled by the name of the Alte Zwetschge brandy from the Ziegler distillery - it means "Old Plum" - because it's not the plums that are old. This name is derived from the storage of the brandy in wooden barrels: this brandy spends up to five years in chestnut and oak barrels, where it's left to mature slowly. The flavour of this golden liquid is reminiscent of oranges, chestnuts and cinnamon - with a balanced fruity and woody aroma.
